Population Living Near a Major Grocery Store
This layer displays the percentage of the population living within a one- or five-mile radius of a major supermarket. Supermarkets are identified using the names of major chains, and are a subset of the May 15, 2016 USDA directory of SNAP-authorized retailers.

Layer displays updated food insecurity rates for US counties. Food insecurity refers to USDA’s measure of lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members and limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods. Data is from Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap program.
