The new school segregation index data are now available for the year of 2021-2022. Data were from the 2021-2022 National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and are used for the 2023 County Health Rankings. This indicator reports the extent to which students within different race and ethnicity groups are unevenly distributed across schools when compared with the racial and ethnic composition of the local population. The school segregation index are reported for US counties and states over the report period.
The new excessive drinking data for the year of 2020 are now available (replacing data for 2019). Data were from the 2020 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) annual survey and are used for the 2023 County Health Rankings. Percentage of adults self-reporting excessive drinking in the last 30 days are reported for US counties and states over the report period.
The access to dentists data for the year of 2021 are now available. Data were from the 2021 Area Health Resources Files (AHRF) and are used for the 2023 County Health Rankings. The rate of dentists per 100,000 population are reported for US states and counties (data are suppressed for counties with population greater than 4,000 and 0 dentists over the report period).
The new three-year average life expectancy data for the years of 2018-2020 are now available. Data were from the National Center for Health Statistics – Mortality Files (2018-2020) and are used for the 2023 County Health Rankings. The average number of years a person can expect to live are reported for US states and counties with fewer than 5,000 population-years-at-risk over the report period.

Rate of mental health care providers per 100,000 population are reported for US counties and states over the report period.
The new three-year average premature death data for the years of 2018-2020 are now available. Data were from the National Center for Health Statistics – Mortality Files (2018-2020) and are used for the 2023 County Health Rankings. The age-adjusted rate of potential life lost before age 75 per every 100,000 total population are reported for US states and counties with >= 20 deaths over the report period.
