Report Indicator

NLCD tree canopy cover is a 30 m raster geospatial dataset that is available for the conterminous United States, coastal Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. These data contain percent tree canopy estimates, as a continuous variable, for each pixel across all land covers and types and are generated by the United States Forest Service (USFS).

New maps and data now available for indicators from the 2018 US Census Bureau’s SAHIE program (replacing data for 2017). Annual data depicting trends over time is now available for counties, states, and the US for years 2011 through 2018. Affected indicators:

• Uninsured Population – Under Age 18

American Community Survey data for the 2014-18 five-year period has been processed and released! These updates replace previous indicator data from the 2013-2017 five-year period.

New maps and data now available for indicators from the 2018 US Census Bureau’s SAHIE program (replacing data for 2017). Annual data depicting trends over time is now available for counties, states, and the US for years 2011 through 2018. Affected indicators:

• Uninsured Population – Total (Under Age 65)

This indicator reports the number of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in the community. This indicator is relevant because FQHCs are community assets that provide health care to vulnerable populations; they receive extra funding from the federal government to promote access to ambulatory care in areas designated as medically underserved.

Data have been updated to the most recent time period (2019). Data are obtained from the the 2020 County Health Rankings, released on March 23, 2020. Affected Indicators:

• Access to Mental Health Providers

New data on violent crimes are available for the 2015-17 three-year period (replacing data for 2012-14). Violent crime includes murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault while property crimes include burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Crime totals and rates are multi-year estimates for the three year period 2015-2017. County-level UCR files are based on agency records in a file obtained from the FBI that also provides aggregated county totals. NACJD inputs missing data and then aggregates the data to the county-level. Multi-year estimates are calculated by CARES.

Using the most current U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics release, unemployment rate data and maps have been updated to July 2020.

A new indicator has been added to the reporting platform! This indicator reports the annual wellness exam utilization rates among Medicare beneficiaries from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Mapping Medicare Disparities tool. Data are reported for the latest report period (2017) with trends over time available beginning with year 2012. Data breakouts by race and ethnicity are also available.

New 5-year mortality rates for 2014-2018 are now available (replacing data for 2013-2017). Affected indicators:
