This updated dataset reports the total number of days in which an extreme heat event was above 100 degrees between 2019-2021 at the county level. Data were obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Environmental Public Health Tracking Network (EPHTN).

Median Household Income, 2021

This layer displays the total number and percentage of children in poverty (in households with income or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level). Data are from the latest US Census Bureau Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) dataset and are available at the county, state, and school-district level.

Maximum Temperature – Average Days Above 98th Percentile

This updated dataset reports the total number of days in which an extreme heat event was above 98th percentile between 2019-2021 at the county level. Data were obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Environmental Public Health Tracking Network (EPHTN).

Social Vulnerability Index, 2020

The Social Vulnerability Index map displays the final Social Vulnerability Index Score and the four theme scores (Socioeconomic, Household Composition, Minority Status, and Housing & Transportation) of each county/census tract ranked against all counties/tracts in the United States. County and tract level data are acquired from the CDC/ATSDR Social Vulnerability Index, 2020.

EJ Screen Superfund Proximity

The Superfund proximity indicator is reflective of the total count of sites proposed and listed (final) on
the National Priorities List (NPL) in each block group within 5 km of the average resident in a block
group, divided by distance, calculated as the population-weighted average of blocks in each block group.

EJ Screen Hazardous Waste Proximity

The hazardous waste proximity indicator is reflective of the total count of hazardous waste facilities in
each block group within 5 km of the average resident in a block group, divided by distance, calculated as
the population-weighted average of blocks in each block group. Hazardous waste facilities are defined as
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) handlers that are either operating TSDFs from RCRA or
reporting LQGs from the 2019 BR.
