Opportunity Data – Location Affordability Index

This layer displays the percentage of household income a family earning 50% of area median income (AMI) might pay on housing and/or transportation costs. Data is from the Location Affordability Index (LAI) Version 2, which estimates these costs at the neighborhood level for all populated areas across the United States.

Households Receiving SNAP Benefits, Disparity Index Score

Layer displays information about racial disparity of poverty using data from the 2010-2014 American Community Survey (ACS). The Index of Disparity (ID) is used to show the magnitude of variation in indicator percentages across population groups. In this case, the index measures the difference in the percentage of the households receiving SNAP benefits across four racial and ethnic groups.

Educational Attainment, Disparity Index Score

Layer displays information about racial disparity of educational attainment using data from the 2009-2013 American Community Survey (ACS). The Index of Disparity (ID) is used to show the magnitude of variation in indicator percentages across population groups. In this case, the index measures the difference in the percentage of the population with less than a high school diploma across four racial and ethnic groups.

Population in Poverty, Disparity Index Score

Layer displays information about racial disparity of poverty using data from the 2010-2014 American Community Survey (ACS). The Index of Disparity (ID) is used to show the magnitude of variation in indicator percentages across population groups. In this case, the index measures the difference in the percentage of populations of different racial and ethnic groups living below the poverty level.

National Risk Index

The National Risk Index (NRI) is a dataset and an application that help identify communities most at-risk for natural hazards. The NRI leverages available source data for 18 natural hazards, social vulnerability, and community resilience to develop a baseline relative risk measurement for each United Statescounty and Census tract. The NRI is intended to help users better understand the natural hazard risk of their communities or assigned areas.

Theil Index: Racial Diversity

Layer displays information about racial segregation using the Theil index. This index measures the “evenness” of all races across the county based on the racial composition of the population at the block group level.

EPA Climate Change Indicators – Change in Extreme Temperatures

This indicator displays changes in the number of days with unusually (>95th percentile) cold temperatures in the contiguous 48 United States. Indicator data are acquired from the EPA’s Climate Change Indicators in the United States, Fourth Edition, published in 2016.

Area Deprivation Index by Census Block Group

The Area Deprivation Index has been publically released! The ADI map displays rankings of neighborhoods by socioeconomic status disadvantage in a region of interest (e.g. at the state or national level). It includes factors for the theoretical domains of income, education, employment, and housing quality. It can be used to inform health delivery and policy, especially for the most disadvantaged neighborhood groups.

Area Deprivation Index by Census Block Group

The 2015 Area Deprivation Index is now available! The 2015 ADI (v2.0) was constructed using the 2011-2015 5-year estimates from the US Census’ American Community Survey. The methods are identical to the 2013 ADI construction.
